"Every Child Needs a Teacher"
Every child needs a teacher because...
Till date, over 100 million children wake up every day without any hope to get education. Many of these children live with HIV-AIDS, poverty, hard labour and hunger, and these children will never know a teacher as they are the ones who cannot afford even a basic standard of education. Thus, the GAW of 2006 came into action to call for an immediate end to deprivation right to quality education. This call for action was premised on the basic realities existing that manifest the plight of the children worldwide;
- The United Nations estimates that at least 15 million more teachers are needed for the universal primary education goal alone.
- There is a desperate need for more qualified teachers - many low income countries currently save money by hiring teachers with little training, and pay them poorly.
- Teachers are under pressure, coping with enormous classes, poor living and working conditions and many are affected by HIV/AIDS. Yet good teachers are essential for children to learn, sufficient ratio of female teachers can directly contribute to proper retaining girl child in schools.
